We visited many local and uninhabited islands and the scale of debris on the beaches was overwhelming. The land glistens from afar due to all the plastic bottles at the high tide mark. The country’s very position with the monsoons and currents means they collect waste from everywhere, but certainly the resorts and locals contribute due to insufficient waste disposal and a combination of lack of caring and lack of education. I wish everyone could see these beautiful islands and the hideous dark side to them. I’ll be keen to hear about your travels there.
